Development of enset starch based edible films for food packaging: Mechanical and optical properties
نویسندگان
چکیده
Enset (Ensete Ventricosum, Family Musaceae) is a plant indigenous to Ethiopia. It often called ‘false banana’ for its close resemblance banana plant. The one of the most important staple foods south and southwestern parts contains starch as major contents. Starch extracted from this has not been still investigated raw material biofilm. In study, biofilm was prepared using Enset. Further, water barrier, mechanical, optical properties Enset-starch (ES) based films were investigated. These compared with developed standard corn-starch (sigma-Aldrich S4180) same combination plasticizer, surfactant agar. From results, it observed that ES edible film can be better compactable food packaging material. Also, mechanical showed appropriateness when corn-starch-based

Whey protein based edible food packaging films and coatings
Packaging systems are intended to protect the food from its surroundings acting as physical/mechanical, chemical and microbiological barrier to maintain quality, safety, and to prolong the packaged food shelf-life. Food quality and its average shelf-life are decreased when the foodstuff interacts with its environment gaining or losing moisture and aroma, or taking oxygen leading to oxidative ra...
متن کاملBiodegradable Whey Protein Edible Films as a New Biomaterials for Food and Drug Packaging
Food packaging extensively uses plastic films and containers of petroleum-based polymers for their excellent functional properties and competitive price. Plastic packaging has become a central focus of waste reduction efforts, particularly in aesthetic terms of damage to flora and fauna. Presently, consumers require greater quality and longer shelf lives for their foodstuffs, while they ...
متن کاملProperties of collagen based edible films in food packaging: A review
Films are thin coatings of materials that protect the product against mechanical and corruption factors. The use of edible films and coatingsis developed these days because they can retain the quality, flavor and moisture content of the product and also are degradable and easy to use. Proteins are an apt choice for such film’s base material as their suitable barrier property against oxygen, CO2...
متن کاملOptimization of Edible Alyssum homalocarpum Films for Physical and Mechanical Properties
The effect of dry material, glycerol and ratio of water to seed in alyssum homalocarpum films on their thickness, transparency, moisture content, tensile strength, elongation and water vapor permeability was investigated using mixture response surface methods. Dry material and glycerol were important factors influencing tensile strength, elongation and water vapor permeability. Ratio of water t...

Montmorillonite modified with a quaternary ammonium salt C30B/starch nanocomposite (C30B/ST-NC), silver nanoparticles/starch nanocomposite (Ag-NPs/ST-NC) and both silver nanoparticles/C30B/starch nanocomposites (Ag-NPs/C30B/ST-NC) films were produced. The nanoclay (C30B) was dispersed in a starch solution using an ultrasonic probe. Different concentrations of Ag-NPs (0.3, 0.5, 0.8 and 1.0mM) we...
